Milestones

• AIRD promoted and strengthened a district-level Palmyrah workers federation which presently functions as a registered trade union governed by elected leaders from among themselves.
• AIRD promoted and strengthened Deepam, a women's self-help group federation in Ramanathapuram district, which is registered and functions as a women's organisation managing credit schemes and coordinating development activities.
• AIRD facilitated the formation and registration of a HIV Positive People's Network in Ramanathapuram which is functioning independently.
• AIRD initiated and managed 18 Pre-Schools which are now handed over to the government schemes for continuous functioning.
• A health insurance scheme was initiated with the help of mainstream insurance companies
• AIRD was instrumental in resuming a Voluntary Counseling & Testing Centre (VCTC) at Government Head Quarters Hospital, Ramanathapuram.
• Awareness video documentaries on Child issues, Pam Candy Production, Self Help Groups and HIV/AIDS produced and is widely used in the district.
• AIRD was instrumental in the formation of "Siragukal Federation" - a federation for Female Sex Workers in the District.
• AIRD partnered with LIC as an agent in the Micro-Insurance Scheme of LIC to inculcate savings and Security habits among SHGs and rural families in general.
• Implemented an early warning system programme for coastal communities with technical support from UNDP.
• Implemented a NABARD-supported watershed program in Siruvayal under the Integrated Watershed Management Program (IWMP).
• Implemented projects in the district to address issues relating to Climate change, Sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, social security, and social enterprise.
• Conducted training programs for rural women in Self Help Groups under Micro Skill (and Entrepreneurship) Development Program (MSDP) on Jute,Cloth Bag Making, Palm Jaggery Making,Cleaning Items Making for Domestic Use, Fish,Prawn Pickle Making, Hygienic Way of Dry Fish Making, etc., with support from EDII-Accenture
• AIRD partnered with WEP, USA to implement a Women's Education Programme.
